Fern Care Tips:
- Always check the hardiness zone on fern varieties to make sure they’re appropriate for your area.
- Ferns generally prefer moist soil with even aeration in the soil.
- Ferns are not heavy feeders and perform best with a balanced feed like 20-10-20 or 20-20-20. Don’t over fertilize or let reside accumulate on the fronds.
- Many hardy ferns lose foliage in the winter and bounce back in spring. Deciduous ferns should be cleaned up and dead foliage removed, while semi-evergreen ferns should not be trimmed until spring. Know your varieties to make the best decision on trimming.

Very Large Nearly giant size
Large Height 23" to 30"
Medium Height 13" to 18"
Medium Large Height 19" to 22"
Small Height 7" to 12"
Dwarf Height 3" to 6"
Miniature Height 3" or less
But, generally the width is about double the height.
